Commonly known as scarlet heath I am a stunning evergreen shrub that will bring a burst of colour to any garden. I am characterised by my needle-like leaves that are green in colour and arranged in whorls along the stems.
In the spring and early summer I produce a profusion of bell-shaped flowers that range in colour from deep red to pink. My flowers are borne in clusters at the ends of my stems and attract a variety of pollinators such as bees and butterflies to the garden.
I prefer an acidic, well-drained soil and I thrive in full sun to partial shade. I do best in consistently moist but not waterlogged soils and quality potting mixes when grown in a pot or container.
Use me to add a splash of colour to your garden. With proper care and maintenance, I will reward you with a beautiful display of flowers year after year.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
I bloom prolifically from winter through spring with clusters of bright red flowers on the ends of my branches
My compact form makes me ideal for rockeries, borders and beside pathways
Adaptable I am just as happy growing in a pot or other container as I am planted out in the garden
