I am Anigozanthos Ruby Velvet™. My family originated from South Western Australia.

Habit Strappy - Bird attracting
Plant family Haemodoraceae
I am a smaller Kangaroo Paw with an abundance of bold red flowers and a naturally tidy habit. I appreciate good drainage and will perform at my best with an annual application of quality slow release fertiliser applied in spring. I tolerate dry conditions but will perform at my best with consistent moisture. Remove my spent blooms at the base to maintain a tidy appearance. I was bred for toughness and general landscape conditions. My drought and frost tolerance is very high relative to many other Kangaroo Paws. I am highly resistant to black spot which also affects many other Kangaroo Paws. I create stunning impact mass planted with 4 to 6 plants per square metre. As a cut flower I am long lived in a vase when being enjoyed indoors.
I am popular and will make you happy because...
I am a unique Australian native, just as happy in large pots and containers as I am planted out in the garden
I produce masses of dark red flowers from green foliage in spring and summer. I am a great cut flower
My long lived blooms attract honey eaters and other small nectar feeding birds
